Moscow, gr. 175, fol. 216v. Martyrdom, beheading. Arethas, bound, is about to be beheaded. Four co-martyrs have already been beheaded. A group await martyrdom at the right. (Bank and Popova, Iskusstvo Vizantii, II, fig. p. 51; Ševčenko, N., Metaphrastian Menologion, p. 56, fig. 6C1).

Mount Athos, Esphigmenou 14, fol. 136r. 1) Arethas and companions. Martyrdom, beheading; burning. Dunaan of Himyar, crowned, is seated on a faldstool. Behind him, two attendants stand in front of a building. Dunaan orders the execution of Arethas and a woman of Najran. The son of the woman of Najran, whom Dunaan had offered to spare, bites him on the leg. In the center, Arethas is about to be beheaded. At right, the woman of Najran, hands raised, stands within a blazing furnace. Her son plunges into the flames at the side of the furnace. A woman and four youths look on. 2) Elesbaan of Ethiopia. In Prison. Four Ethiopians, two carrying battle axes and spears, one bannered, are seated in two boats. On the shore, a group of soldiers, wearing armor and helmets and carrying spears, one bannered, draw back. In the center, Elesbaan, wearing crown, hands raised, is seated on a bench, flanked by two men, their necks linked with a chain. Behind them, the prison. At the right, the walled city of Najran. Mount Athos, Esphigmenou 14, fol. 136v. 1) Siege of City of Najran. Dunaan of Himyar, wearing armor and helmet, holding a spear, rides toward the city of Najran at the head of a group of foot soldiers, wearing armor, one holding spear and shield, another holding a bannered spear. Within the city walls, Arethas and a group of men and women can be seen. 2) Fall of City of Najran. A soldier on horseback, followed by a group of foot soldiers, one holding spear and helmet, supervises a guard who is pushing forward a group of bound Christians from Najran. At right, the city of Najran, within which other Christians can be seen. (Pelekanides, Treasures, II, fig. 333).
