Four sculptures at Reims Cathedral in France
Sculptures at Reims Cathedral

This database contains approximately 1,800 images taken over the last forty years by Tuck Langland, Professor Emeritus at Indiana University South Bend. The Langland image collection focuses exclusively on Romanesque and Gothic buildings in France and England.

In addition to teaching at IUSB from 1971 to 2003, Langland was a professional sculptor for more than forty years, as well as President of the National Sculpture Society and member of the National Academy of Art. Langland is the author of two books on sculpture: Practical Sculpture (Englewood Cliffs, N.J.: Prentice Hall, 1988), and From Clay to Bronze: A Studio Guide to Figurative Sculpture (New York: Watson-Guptill Publication, 1999).

Scope

This database comprises almost 1,800 images of Romanesque and Gothic architecture and architectural sculpture from France and England. Represented are 184 French buildings and 42 English buildings. While the collection includes secular monuments, the emphasis is on sacred architecture and sculpture.
